Ubiquiti UniFi guest Wi-Fi configuration
Ubiquiti UniFi wireless networks integrate with RM-WiFi using the external portal interface within the UniFi Network Application.
The RM-WiFi management console provides a step-by-step, per-venue setup guide with your exact portal URLs, pre-authorisation hostnames, and controller API connection test across UniFi Network v7, v8, and v9.

Per-venue setup guide in the RM-WiFi console
Every venue in RM-WiFi receives its own dedicated portal configuration values. Instead of copying generic hostnames from documentation, open the RM-WiFi management console, select Ubiquiti UniFi under your venue's hardware settings, and follow the interactive per-venue guide.
The console displays the exact values generated for your venue:
- Your venue's External Portal Server address
- Ready to copy and paste into your UniFi Hotspot / Guest Control settings.
- Your venue's Pre-Authorisation (walled garden) host list
- Automatically tailored to the sign-in methods (room lookup, email, Google, Apple ID) enabled on your venue.
- One-click Controller API verification
- Validates your UniFi controller URL and API key or local site administrator credentials directly from the console.
Controller architecture and requirements
RM-WiFi interfaces with Ubiquiti networks by managing guest authentication at the controller layer. When a guest signs in on the RM-WiFi captive portal, the platform calls the UniFi Network Application API to authorise the client device MAC address for the designated stay duration and bandwidth profile.
Review architecture requirements before starting the console wizard:
- Supported controller environments
- Compatible with UniFi OS consoles (Dream Machine Pro, Dream Machine SE, Dream Wall, Cloud Key Gen2 Plus, Cloud Gateway Max/Ultra) and self-hosted or cloud controllers running UniFi Network Application v7.x, v8.x, or v9.x.
- Controller reachability
- The UniFi controller must be reachable by RM-WiFi over HTTPS, or you can drop in an optional pre-configured RM-WiFi gateway router if your UniFi access points run without a reachable cloud/on-site controller.
- API credentials
- On UniFi Network v9.1+ you can generate a scoped API Key in the UniFi Control Plane; on earlier versions you create a dedicated local Site Administrator account (never an Ubiquiti cloud SSO account) as guided in the RM-WiFi console.
How the UniFi integration works
Once connected through the RM-WiFi console wizard, your UniFi network and RM-WiFi work together automatically:
- Isolated guest network & VLAN
- Guests connect to your designated open Guest SSID with client isolation enabled, keeping guest devices completely separate from front-desk computers and POS terminals.
- HTTPS portal redirection
- Unauthenticated devices are redirected to your venue's hosted RM-WiFi login screen.
- Live PMS room check & walk-in capture
- Direct-booked hotel guests connect with room number and surname without email prompts; OTA-booked guests can be prompted for their personal email and optional marketing consent; walk-in visitors sign in with email, Google, or Apple.
- Check-out expiry after a short grace period
- When a guest checks out at reception, RM-WiFi ends their Wi-Fi access after a short grace period by deauthorising the session via the UniFi controller API.
Verification and testing
Complete the setup using the verification tools inside the RM-WiFi management console:
- Run the console API handshake test
- Click Test Connection in the RM-WiFi console to confirm site discovery and API permissions.
- Connect a test mobile device
- Join the guest SSID on a smartphone and confirm the captive login screen opens automatically.
- Verify authorised client status
- Confirm that the signed-in device appears in both the RM-WiFi live venue dashboard and the UniFi Network client list with the expected speed tier.
