Thirty rooms to over a hundred — Komune, Bali
Komune opened in Bali as a small beach club with thirty rooms, and chose Resort Manager with nothing to migrate from. More than fifteen years later it runs the same system.
What changed
When Komune started with us they had a small beach club and thirty rooms.
They now have over a hundred rooms. The beach club is still there, and alongside it a spa, a yoga shala, a hairdresser, and a health hub with a restaurant, a bar and a second pool.
The property management system is the one they installed at the beginning.
The early years
Komune came to us early, before the software had met enough properties for its rough edges to have been found. There were plenty of teething issues in the first years. They were resolved quickly, and the relationship survived them.
What a property outgrows first
Rooms are the easy part. Reservations and front desk work scale predictably, and a hundred rooms is more of the work that thirty rooms was.
What Komune built alongside the rooms is the harder change. A spa, a yoga shala, a hairdresser, a restaurant and a bar are not more rooms. Each one has its own stock, its own staff, and its own charges arriving on a guest's account before checkout.
A property that adds outlets over a decade either brings them into the system it already runs, or reconciles several systems by hand every night. The second is not obvious on the day you open the first restaurant. It becomes obvious somewhere around the third.
Resort Manager covers reservations, front desk, point of sale, stock, accounts, guest relations and reporting in one system. A hairdresser can be added without adding software.
If you are opening with one restaurant and expect to have four, ask any vendor you are considering how the fourth one reaches a guest's bill. Ask before you need the answer.
Komune built all of that themselves. What we can say is that the system kept up with them, and that they never had to stop and replace it on the way.
